Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton was officially added to the Memphis Tigers roster on Thursday. It’s the third team he’s been connected to this off-season.
Walton averaged 13.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28 games last season. He shot 40% from three-point range and 53.5% from the field overall.
The 6-foot-7 guard first entered the portal on March 16 following the dismissal of Shockers head coach Isaac Brown. He quickly found a home 12 days later when he committed to Alabama on March 28.
Following an arrest on April 22, Alabama head coach Nate Oats announced that Walton would no longer join the Crimson Tide in the fall. After a second stint in the portal, Walton committed to UCF on May 11.
Now, Walton finds himself in Memphis despite no official announcement that he left UCF.
The mechanics of changing schools three times in one off-season are complicated, but as indicated on social media, he is already practicing with the team. It’s still unclear if Walton will be eligible to play in games this season. Good luck to the admissions and compliance people dealing with that paperwork.
