Today’s Bets
Arizona State +3.5 vs. Mississippi State
We’re huge fans of Mississippi State this season, but right now they’re missing some key pieces. All-conference big man Tolu Smith is out for six more weeks and starting point guard Shakeel Moore is suspended for the opener against Arizona State. The Sun Devils are in much better shape health-wise. Arizona State is long and athletic and should be able to handle a Bulldogs team that struggled offensively last season. Jamiya Neal has been electric in the preseason scrimmages and the late addition of Jose Perez gives Arizona State enough offensive firepower to get the job done tonight. Take the points on a neutral floor.
Texas Tech -23.5 vs. Texas A&M-Commerce
Normally, a Grant McCasland team would struggle to cover this number because they simply did not play enough possessions. This McCasland team is different. The preseason showed a Red Raiders group that ran up and down the floor, shedding the park the bus mentality that made North Texas a mid-major juggernaut for years. Pop Isaacs runs the show and there’s enough balance behind him that anyone can step up and play Robin to his Batman. TAMU-CC was held to 46 points in their opener vs. Texas A&M and we don’t think they’ll register much more against this squad. It’s a big number, but we see the Red Raiders winning by 30+.
