Recruiting Weekend Recap

Published

on

It was a big weekend in the recruiting world with plenty of new intel coming out of visits. Here’s a recap of what we heard around the country.

Dellquan Warren Commits To Mississippi State

Warren decommitted from Rutgers in May and finds a new home in Starkville with Chris Jans. The Bulldogs worked this one for a while and were the presumed leaders as early as mid-August. Mississippi State’s next target is Rakease Passmore. He also visited this weekend, but got out without a commitment. Arkansas and LSU are the main competition there, but one source indicated Kansas could pivot and make him more of a priority. Jans is one of the most underrated recruiters in the country, but people are starting to take notice.

Indiana’s Big Dream

Indiana hosted the Montverde trio of Liam McNeeley, Derik Queen and Curtis Givens III this weekend. It was one of the biggest visit weekends in Bloomington in recent memory and it shows the kind of traction Mike Woodson is making on the trail. There were no commitments landed on the visit, but Indiana continues to remain the frontrunner for McNeeley. As of writing, he is still set to visit Texas on September 22, but 11 days is a long time to convince him otherwise. A commitment from McNeeley would go a long way in landing one of his teammates as well.

Also, we’d like to give a quick shoutout to the socials team at IU. They do a fantastic job with their post-visit social media blitz.

Amier Ali Cuts His List

Amier Ali cut his list down to five schools, but there’s one school that’s not like the others. Arizona State makes the list because of Ali’s relationship with soon to be announced assistant coach Yusuf Ali. This recruitment is far from over, but Arizona State is most certainly a threat here.

Jaiden Glover Visits St. John’s

Jaiden Glover has been long-rumored to be a St. John’s lock and he finally took an official visit this weekend.

There’s not much else to say here other than we expect an edit to drop soon.

Jalen Shelley Visits Arkansas

Jalen Shelley took a second visit to Arkansas this weekend and by all accounts things went very well. The Hogs are the clear frontrunners for the Link Academy guard and there was some chatter he could commit on his visit. We don’t have any concrete confirmation that he did, but things are certainly trending in that direction. Expect this one to get wrapped up in the near future.

Will McNair Approaching A Decision

BYU and Kansas State are looking to fill a 13th roster spot and McNair fits a need for both. Intel suggests a decision is coming sometime this week and we give Kansas State the edge here.

Dylan Harper Visit Update

We previously reported Auburn will likely get a visit from the five-star guard and multiple sources indicated that visit could happen sometime before the end of the month. Auburn has two home football games and could host him September 16 or September 30. Rutgers is also set to get an official visit in October, per source. Rutgers’ homecoming weekend is October 13-15, which the source says is the most likely date for the visit to occur. Kansas doesn’t have anything on the books yet, but they might have a renewed sense of urgency here because of info in our next nugget…

Jalil Bethea Visits Miami

Perhaps the most intriguing bit of news coming out of the weekend was from Jalil Bethea’s visit to Miami.

Following the visit, a source indicated that Bethea would cancel the remaining visits to Syracuse and Alabama. X (Twitter) account @lightitupsports reached out to Bethea directly and was told the visits were still on.

Following the exchange, multiple independent sources told Burner Ball this recruitment is wrapped up and an official announcement will happen in the next 7-10 days. Bethea may end up taking those last two visits, but from the information we have, it won’t change anything as far as the destination.
