Assessing The Top Unsigned Recruits

Published

on

The early signing period has come and gone and we still have a handful of top recruits on the board. Here’s what we’re hearing on a few of the remaining unsigned 2024s.

*Rankings are based on 247sports data*

#2 Dylan Harper

It’s Rutgers until it’s not for Harper. We’ve gone through the wringer of other teams getting involved and taking more visits and yadda yadda. Nothing suggests that anyone else is a legitimate threat as of writing. Other schools have seemingly waved the white flag here.

#5 VJ Edgecombe

There was a ton of Duke buzz for Edgecombe following his visit and they’re still widely considered the team to beat. Baylor and St. John’s are lingering, though. There are mixed sentiments about St. John’s, with some saying they’re right there and others saying they have no shot. I would consider Baylor the dark horse here. Missing out on Tre Johnson may reignite their efforts to land Edgecombe.

#12 Karter Knox

It’s not a surprise that he went unsigned here – he’s said many times he plans to wait. Kentucky, Louisville, USF and the G-League are the final four. With Louisville’s coaching situation and Kentucky’s growing class, there’s no clear leader right now.

#14 Derrion Reid

Ah yes, this class’s white whale. The back and forth between Alabama and Georgia continues. I can say with confidence that NIL is no longer the issue here and it’ll simply come down to fit – both on and off the court. In recent days, the buzz for Alabama has picked up again. One source went as far to say a verbal commitment was given to the Tide, but I won’t believe it until the ink is dry on the edit.

#15 Derik Queen

The longer this drags on, the worse it is for Maryland – that’s the general consensus among sources keeping tabs on this recruitment. As I said recently, recruiting in the DMV is never a straight line. I’m working on a piece about the area and hope to have it out in a few weeks. As for Queen, Indiana and Houston are still in contact with him. I’m not sure the scope of Kansas’ involvement. They’ve already signed Flory Bidunga and there’s an outside chance Hunter Dickinson returns for one more year, so on paper it’s the least logical of the destinations. In general, things are quiet around Queen right now and there isn’t much else to report.

#19 Bryson Tucker

Tucker recently popped up at Kansas on an official visit. There are some rumblings that if he decides to go there, it could be as a mid-year addition. Kansas is definitely looking to add someone at the break, but it’s unclear if it will ultimately be Tucker. Michigan State and the pro route are the only other options getting any chatter here.

#23 Billy Richmond

We placed a prediction for Kentucky yesterday. Barring any last-second changes, that’s where we expect him to end up.

#24 Zoom Diallo

Another white whale in this class. Arizona, Gonzaga or Washington. That’s all I know. This one has been impossible to get any good info on.
