2024 five-star Derrion Reid’s recruitment seemed very cut and dry.
The Prolific Prep star narrowed his list down to Alabama, Florida State and Georgia on September 25. He took an official visit to Florida State just before he announced his list and had visits to the other two finalists lined up in the weeks following.
For the longest time, Alabama was considered the favorite. Reid spoke highly of Nate Oats and his system. Following his visit there, he raved about the program and the vibe he got from the players. His Prolific Prep teammate Aiden Sherrell is already committed to the Tide, furthering the connection to the school.
Immediately following the visit to Tuscaloosa, Reid set a decision date.
In the days following the Alabama visit, Georgia quickly reinserted themselves back into the equation with a lucrative NIL offer. The Bulldogs just landed Athens native Asa Newell and pitched Reid on creating a dynamic duo to turn Georgia’s program around. Alabama swiftly countered with a similar offer and the battle was on. Division in Reid’s camp ultimately spilled into decision day, which led to a postponement of his announcement.
We were confident that if Reid announced on Saturday, it would’ve been Alabama. Despite the flurry of action leading up to decision day, various sources from different areas continued to point towards the Tide. Once Reid delayed his announcement, we pulled our prediction until we received further information. We set this precedent with Aiden Sherrell a few months prior.
In the days following the postponement, intel has been hard to come by – until this morning. Multiple sources indicate that Georgia is now the team to beat for Reid. The Bulldogs have won over the right people in Reid’s camp and hope to get this over the finish line soon. There is currently no timeline for an announcement, but we intend to make an official prediction before it happens.
As we’ve seen, things can change quickly with this recruitment, but we expect it to wrap up before signing day.
